Ok, so I'm really confused now.
I was reading on this website and he says that you would have to eat impossible amount of fruit to get the RDA's of vitamins every day.
What's up with this?

Re: Fruits too low in vitamins?
He also says tomatoes shouldn't be eaten except rarely because of solanines.
Quote
"Concentrated tomato paste contains the most alkaloids. In
addition to solanine they also contain the glycoalkaloid tomatine,
which has similar toxic effects. Tomatoes are one of the top ten known allergenic
foods. Most people are, in fact, demonstrably allergic to them. Many 58
break out if they eat them, yet millions of tons are eaten every year in
ketchup, pasta sauce, tomato juice, salads, pizza, and other foods.
Nearly all natural diet authors include tomatoes as a regular staple (e.g. McDougall). They
just don’t understand the toxicity of these Nightshade alkaloids. Just like
potatoes. Yes, you certainly can put a slice of tomato on your
sandwich if you like, or eat a red sauce occasionally."
RRM, tell me what you think of this when you get a chance.
I love tomatoes and eat them every day, sometimes several a day so I'd like to know if I should worry about that at all.
Thanks

Re: Fruits too low in vitamins?
To give 1 example: Vitamin C: RDA is 60mg. 1 Navel orange according to the USDA already contains 82.7mg vitamin C.
Re: Fruits too low in vitamins?
Oh my gosh, so he just completely talking out of his rear end on this?!
Re: Fruits too low in vitamins?
Simply submit enough fruit in the calculator to supply you with enough energy for one day,dcboyer02 wrote:he says that you would have to eat impossible amount of fruit to get the RDA's of vitamins every day.
and you will see what vitamins it supplies you with.
If they are not ripe enough, you shouldnt eat them indeed.dcboyer02 wrote:He also says tomatoes shouldn't be eaten except rarely because of solanines.
The more ripe they are, the less solanine and tomatine they contain.
This goes for all fruits: the riper they are, the lower the level of anti nutrients.
Tomatoes for paste are not selected on ripeness, indeed."Concentrated tomato paste contains the most alkaloids.
As if all nightshades are the same...Nearly all natural diet authors include tomatoes as a regular staple (e.g. McDougall). They
just don’t understand the toxicity of these Nightshade alkaloids.
Raw potatoes are always toxic, indeed.
